The Egyptians believed in many gods, Which Made them Polytheists. Some of these Gods are:
Mummification
Mummification begins with the announcement of the persons death. This was done because it gave the people time to prepare for the morning of their death and their ceremony. Then priests would "embalm" the body, this was done inside a tent or room. The first part of the persons body that was removed was the brain. We were told that the brain was useless and a waste of space. The priests had shoved a hook up the bodies nose and pull out as much of the brain as possible. Then they had put the remains of the brain into water to dissolve. We did not find out were they put the brain due to the awful smell and gore so Professor Bacon and i stepped out of the tent for a brief moment. Next the priests made a slit in the abdomen and pulled out all the internal organs; lungs, liver, intestine, and stomach. Soon the organs were washed and put into preservatives, the body was stuffed with linen to "fill up" the figure, now the priests were sloppy and and the body looked disfigured. After four days we saw the body once again on a slab that was tilted so the remaining moisture would dry out. And the body had salt covering the skin. The locals said the body would stay there for around 40 days. After the 40 day time period was up the priests invited us to see them wrap the body. Professor Bacon refused, but i was intrigued. First the body was coated in oils and they placed the Eye Of Horus onto the slit in the abdomen.( for protection) Then they took 15 thick rolls of linen of a shelf and started wrapping the body. Each finger and toe were separately wrapped, and with each layer protective charms were laid on top. They stopped every 1-2 hours briefly to say protective prayers and write some protective charms on the linen. After a long process of waiting, the priests were done. They grabbed a beautifully painted mask the supposedly represented the dead persons ka (soul) and placed it on their head. Then placed the body into a skillfully painted coffin. Next ceremony was held for the persons death and for their family. The family would walk with the coffin ,which was held by servants, through the city and towards the burial chamber. The priests would pay money for people to cry, this was an omen to the gods that the person was loved. The more people who cried the most likely that he/she would pass on to the afterlife. Once the coffin was placed into the burial chamber, their Ka would make the journey to the after life. The priests explained that the heart would be weight with the feather of truth, the feather weighed exactly as much as a pure human heart. If the heart weighed more the beast Ammut, the devourer of the dead, would....well devour it. If the heart weight as much as the heart they had achieved immortality in the afterlife.
